Café 1888 is an expansion of founder Jacqueline Mejia's original concept, Atrevete Confections. Started at a shared kitchen in Naperville, IL, Atrevete Confections grew from farmer's markets then a tiny store front and ultimately to the current store front location. Jacqueline became business partners with Jeff Williams in xx when they began to develop their own shared kitchen concept. The kitchen, Atrevete Collaborative Kitchen Company, is now operating in Montgomery, IL and is in the process of expanding its rental space. The kitchen also serves as the production facility for Atrevete Confections which is now able to provide high quality pastries to Café 1888 in addition to the original location and satellite site in Plainfield, IL.
Café 1888's operations expand the unique and exquisite quality of Atrevete pastries and desserts to a savory menu including soups, salads, sandwiches, espressos & coffees and soon, small plate dinners with custom cocktails. In addition to the main café there are 5 side rooms which are used for overflow seating all in a comfortable, inviting atmosphere. The side rooms can be rented for small events and Café 1888 also hosts events such as game nights, pop up events for vendors, murder mysteries and more.
